Movie night 'I Am Michael’
‘I am Michael’ is a biographical drama film based on Benoit Denizet-Lewis’ New York Times Magazine article “My Ex-Gay Friend”. The movie tells the story about Michael Glatze, a high profile queer gay activist, who created a national controversy when he claimed to no longer be gay and became a anti-gay Christian pastor. The movie starts when Michael works as a journalist at XY Magazine where he pursues social awareness and sexual exploration. After a traumatic scare begins a religious reawakening. He renounces his gay lifestyle, rejects his friends, and endeavors to find his "true self." He explores Buddhism and Mormonism, yet ultimately lands at a Christian Bible school in rural Wyoming where he meets his girlfriend, Rebekah, and becomes the pastor of his own church.
We'll have a debate about homosexuality and religion after the movie!
